Welcome Back Friends and Supporters!

The opportunities to stop and pay tribute to all the men and women who served and in many instances given their lives, to defend all the liberties we often take for granted, are too rare. Although most of us are very thankful, we do not take the time to stop and reflect on the sacrifice made on our behalf.

As we watch the United States of America military continually be called upon to preserve peace in a difficult world and in very dangerous environments, we feel that Naples needed a way to stop, reflect, and honor all these men and women. We would like to see a “Naples Patriotic Moment’. 

The Naples Patriotic Moment take place January thru April, on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings in front of The Sugden Theatre on Fifth Avenue South.

The tribute will be in the form of a small, honorable, musical presentation. The highlight of this short program will be the playing of Taps with representatives of the branches of the military saluting the flag!  The entire event will take about 15 minutes. 

The History and Origin of "Taps"                                        

A flag pole would be placed near the  sidewalk in front of The Sugden Theatre.  

The tribute “NPM” will honor all the various branches of military retirees, active, and reserves. We have available all levels of military who have agreed to participate on one or more evenings during the tribute. They would salute the flag as taps are played.

Local musical groups will play or sing then taps would be played, and then the evening will conclude with the singing of "God Bless America."  We have spoken to numerous musical groups that would volunteer to be assigned to one of the planned evenings. These groups range from barbershop quartets, high school bands, local bands, individual bands, and of course military bands. The group performing will be allowed to take donations for their organization or to give to a worthy cause of their choice. This is a community event. Please let us know if you or your organization would like to perform.

The Naples Daily News will publish in Friday's Neapolitan Section the groups participating that week and time of the tribute for that week. The time will fluctuate so that taps can be played as close to sunset as possible. In the event of rain we will reschedule the performance.

We believe that the “Naples Patriotic Moment” is a unique way for Naples to pay tribute to those who serve or have served in our Military on our behalf.
